the day has FINALLY arrived…
My book “Scandinavia” has been published, and it’s now available for purchase!
Yes, I published it myself. EVERY aspect of this book was handled by me, and ONLY by me:
— I wrote every poem.
— I copy-edited and content-edited the entire collection by myself…several times.
— I formatted the interior (body of the book) on the computer, teaching myself as I went along.
— I designed the cover of the book, then had to format THAT on my own…making sure all fonts were embedded, all files were flattened, etc. (and almost driving myself crazy in the process).
— I even bought my own ISBN number and generated my own barcode for the book.
Make no mistake — this book, this creation so dear to my heart, is entirely MINE.
And I wouldn’t want it any other way.
I’ve had so many people (always a MAN, funnily enough, when I didn’t even ask his opinion) tell me, “You don’t want to publish your own book. You want a publishing house to do it.” A) It’s amazing how many men think they can read my mind and/or know what I want, and B) They’re wrong. I honestly wouldn’t have wanted a major publisher anywhere NEAR this book. I know they would have destroyed so many of this book’s unique qualities, and ruined much of its magic.
I worked on this book for over ten years — TEN YEARS. It was a long and painful road, but the result is a solid collection of poems…a very AUTHENTIC and moving body of work, and none of it is fluff, waste, or “filler” — you are getting SUBSTANCE. Whatever price you pay for “Scandinavia” — whether you buy it now (at regular price) or on sale during the promo (soon) — you are getting your money’s worth and then some, because this collection is the real deal, and I put my whole self into it. I know that I deserve every penny that I DO ask for…and I know that you’re getting one hell of an experience, if you’re open to it.
Even though the process of creating “Scandinavia” legitimately threatened my sanity at times…it was all worth it in the end.
Because I made it. I DID IT.

“Scandinavia” contains several poems that I’ve shared here (on my blog) over the years, but it contains so many more that haven’t been seen or heard in public, anywhere.
And while the collection largely represents a literal and metaphorical JOURNEY, it is so much more. As I state in the “Read This First” section of “Scandinavia,” this book contains poems about…
“a dying plant I saved from a department store, obsessive-compulsive disorder (and the offbeat way my daughter chooses to deal with it), a conversation I had one night with a famous dead writer, and my anxiety over accidentally killing a gnat. There are bittersweet moments, humorous tales, and universal truths. In short, there should be something for everyone.”
I made sure that there is truly something for EVERYONE. Even if the trajectory itself doesn’t speak to you, at least SOME of the poems will.
Another important point: I carefully crafted the poems in a way that makes each one direct, simple, and easy to read…WITHOUT stripping away intellectual or emotional depth. You will be able to clearly understand these poems — but you will also be able to connect to them and FEEL them as artistic works, simultaneously.

I’ll be honest — this has cost me a fortune 😅…but it’s worth it. I also know that times are tough for everyone right now, so starting November 5th and running through November 27th — that’s for THREE WEEKS — I’m going to be charging only 12 dollars per book as part of a “New Book Promo” deal on Lulu. During this promo, I’ll make almost no profit from each book I sell…but I don’t care if it means that I can make the book more accessible for people who otherwise couldn’t afford it. Art should be available to EVERYONE who has a passion for it, and I’m trying to make that possible for my readers. Yes, at some point in the future, I’d like to make more money and be financially secure — I think we ALL would. But more importantly, I want to heal and inspire others. I want to share my art with the world. I want people to have access to that art and/or inspiration, should they want or need it.
